This page gives an overview over how to set up the simulation extent and the properties of the landscape, and how to initialize tree individuals on the landscape.
The simulation extent
The actual landscape in iLand is defined by a grid of resource units with a size of 1 ha. Each resource unit may differ with regard to its physical (e.g. soil properties) and climatic properties.
setup of the landscape
The process of setting up of a real-world landscape including stand initialization is described here.
Trees on the landscape
Currently, iLand supports two text file based input formats. One handles a list of tree individuals with defined locations and properties and is compatible with the format used in Picus. The 2nd format deals with tree distributions and describes a stand using a couple of simple proxies.
This topic is covered in more detail at the initialize trees page.
